52 Dropzones

Edit: Since this post I’ve now reached 54 dropzones, having been to Skydive Sussex for the UPT Examiner meeting in April, 2015 and Skydive Crosskeys, also in New Jersey, in June of 2016.

Yesterday I grabbed a USPA magazine and started checking boxes. I’m not sure why I started going to see different dropzones. Maybe it was that I could often stay there for free. Maybe it was to see what they were doing different. Maybe it was truly fueled by goal to jump in all 50 states in my lifetime. Eventually you get tired of seeing just another hangar with an airplane and reserved community. But for the most part I’ve really enjoyed the places I’ve been to, and feel like I can always take something away from visiting them. It still amazes me how often you realize you are just 20 minutes away from a dropzone on a cross country journey, and therefore a handful of times I would show up just to see no one was there. But maybe it was because the first time I ever did this — at Zhills, I ended up living at those places. The following list shows the incredible amount of research I’ve done into the industry, and I know it will help me synthesis ideas when I open my own location. I split the list into: places I’ve lived, places I’ve jumped, places that were open and I signed an waiver, and places that were closed.  This represents 6 years of Skydiving.
